What is South Haven?
South Haven is a small resort town on the Blue Coast of Southwest Michigan, right on Lake Michigan. A haven for sun lovers, South Haven draws visitors with its endless white sand beaches and numerous boardwalks that stretch along the Lake Michigan shoreline. South Haven is also known for Grand Water Tower, which is a lighthouse disguised as a Victorian water tower. Although the town is small, it boasts unique shops (including the largest volume of antique stores in Michigan) and a wide array of restaurants and bars at the heart of downtown South Haven.
South Haven has been home to many Hollywood celebrities, including Orson Welles, John Wayne and John Candy. In fact, John Candy’s final movie was filmed in South Haven as he passed away before it was completed. The movie was the comedy “Pet Sematary Two”, which starred David Soul and Edward Furlong. The Indian Village Resort was a favorite film location of John Wayne’s, and much of his movie “The Searchers” was filmed there.
