Introduction: What is Originality and Where Does it Come From?
Originality is defined as something that has never been described or done before. It originates from creativity, invention, imagination and those who have it are often referred to as creative thinkers. The more original a person is, the better creator and innovator they become for the world around them. Originality can be found in one of two places: natural or born talent, or acquired skill through education and training. Originality is the cornerstone of any creative endeavor.
The Key to Feeling like an Original Artist in 2018
To create something new and original you need to start with nothing, build on that and then finish with something completely unique. This article will cover all the steps of this creative process, including how to start with nothing, how to gather ideas, where to find inspiration, what you can do with those ideas and how to create something new from those inspirations.
There are 5 steps to feeling like an original artist:
Step 1 – Start With Nothing
If you want to feel like an artist you need to start with nothing, whether that is a blank canvas or a blank page. This gives you the freedom to create whatever you want and be as creative as you want. It is also important to know that good artists don’t copy others they use their creativity to build on top of what has already been created and make something new.
Step 2 – Gather Ideas
You need to find ideas, whether it be from a TV show, movie, book or conversation. Some ideas can be directly used and some will spark new ideas which will spur your creativity. Richard Branson once said: “Ideas are cheap and plentiful; what matters is implementing them into a great business.”
Step 3 – Find Inspiration
How Are You Connecting with Your Audience Today?
It means that you will have to put some work in to come up with ideas, content and products that other people might want or need. But don’t worry, there is a way to do this without working all the time: you have to get to know your customers really, really well. Use a market research firm or panel of experts to ask the right questions and listen carefully. At the end of the day figuring out what people want is just a matter of asking the right questions and listening carefully.
A few ground rules to make sure you are asking the right questions and listening closely:
Is your Content Truly Empowering Your Audience or just Serving Them Up Filler Words?
When you are selling a product or service, you are selling the solution to a problem your audience has – so they need to actually want the solution. They will only buy when they feel that it solves a problem they have. If they already know what they want, and you offer them something similar, then there is no point in buying from you because your products and services won’t be that different to what other people are offering right now and will very likely not be worth their time. Be aware that they are just not thinking about the problem your solution solves right now.
If your content is meaningless then your product or service will be irrelevant. You will have wasted their time, their money, and any potential sale you could have made. Instead, take a look at what they want and the problems they face in the hopes of increasing the chances that when you are selling them something that it might actually interest them. There is always a better way of doing things, there is always something you can do to make it better or more appealing to your audience than what other people are doing right now.
If you want to truly empower your audience, then the first step is trying to understand them – and the second step is actually trying to do something about it.
Looking for Inspiration to Create New Content That Is Truly Unique and Original in 2018
Hard work does not guarantee that you will find the inspiration you need to be able to create something original. The solution to finding inspiration is usually just a matter of keeping your eyes and ears open, asking questions, meeting new people and being open to seeing new things around you. Many times, inspiration comes from being in the right place at the right time. Just be open to it and you might find that your moment of inspiration is just around the corner.
It is a well-known fact that one must be inspired to be creative. If you are constantly looking for inspiration to fuel your creativity, you will find it. However, if you are not open to inspiration and are always looking for the next “great idea”, then you will never find the critical factor in your creative process: originality. Originality is something that some of us just aren’t born with. So, we must find our inspiration from places that can be found in most every day situations. Being creative is less about having a creative “eureka” moment and more about working hard to develop an original idea into an actual product.
