Utah was one of the latter locations where this practice occurred. Under Brigham Young, he and his followers took their Mormon practices to Utah, where they practiced this agreement in large numbers (approximately 40% percent) until 1890. There is an estimated 100 to 300 polygamous marriages that took place in Utah; however, the exact number is unknown because many of these occurred before 1900. Many of the leaders of the Mormon church were polygamists, including Joseph Smith, Brigham Young, John Taylor, and Wilford Woodruff. It is believed that these leaders had between 24 and 55 wives each. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
