The Story of the Lights in The Heights

The story begins with a man who wanted to bring his family together. He wanted to give his family a treat and make memories with them. It was Christmas Eve, in 1971, when he decided to put up lights so that they could enjoy the holidays together. However, things did not go as planned. When he finished putting up the lights, his youngest son was not feeling well so he had to take him to the hospital. Because of this, he wasn’t able to enjoy his lights with his family. Before the man went to put up the lights that Christmas Eve, he told his children: “I promise you that when we get home for Christmas, we will celebrate together.”
By the time he got home on Christmas Day, his children were all healthy. However, the man had another surprise waiting for them: each of his children had bought him presents. This surprised them because they did not know they even had to buy their father anything. They were so excited that they forgot all about the lights being up or the fact that it was already late at night. They ran outside to look at the lights, which made the man smile. However, all of a sudden, one of his children began to cry. He asked what was wrong and they said they forgot to put up their own lights. The man realized that all of his children had been missing out on the beautiful lights and wanted to make it up to them. He bought each family $5 worth of gas money and took them places around Houston instead of just camping out at home.
He knew that they had been missing out on the holiday lights, so he bought them $5 worth of gas money and took them places around Houston instead of just camping out at home. . . . ….. and that is how the tradition began.

Where to See Houston’s Christmas Light Show

The lights are located in the Heights, specifically on Yale St. between 19th and Shepherd Dr. They are usually put up around Christmas Eve, but they have also been put up around the time of Thanksgiving and St. Patrick’s Day. It is important that you know the areas where these lights are so that you can plan your trip. For example, Yale St. is a main drag of The Heights so to get to see them, you should probably go down there from your usual route. You would also have to park in an area where parking is somewhat scarce, but on the upside, you have a lot of views. You might want to consider driving down from the Medical Center area (the road parallel to I-45) or from Westheimer or Bagby, as these areas are less congested and you can see them without going down any side streets.
The Heights itself has been the focus for Christmas lights for years. The Heights neighborhood dates back to the early 1900s, and has evolved with the times. It is a very modern and hip area for shopping, dining and night life. The lights are usually put up around the corner from Yale St., adjacent to townhouses on Yale St. where you will be able to get a great view of them from afar without all the hustle and bustle of traffic from I-45.
Whatever you decide to do for your trip, remember that the lights are usually up between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
