Introduction: Why Move from South Hill, VA to Richmond, VA?

The roads in Richmond are fairly easy to navigate. That may not seem like a big deal, but imagine if you lived in South Hill, VA and wanted to move to Richmond. The closest major interstate is I-95 and when you start looking for the route going north on I-95, it’s easy enough to find a map that shows the shortest distance from your current location. You could take I-95 north and then take the interstate just south of Richmond, but that’s a two-hour+ drive. It’s 4 hours from South Hill, VA to Richmond. That’s a long commute in any situation, but especially considering we’re talking about an area less than 25 miles square. You’ll be taking my 9:30 departure from work to get there on time to catch the 6 o’clock flight home. That’s a 90-minute drive.

What are the Pros and Cons of Moving From South Hills Va To Richmond Va?

To avoid the traffic, my wife and I decided to move from South Hill, VA to Richmond, VA. We live about a mile from the South Hill, VA exit on I-95 so it would make some sense to stay on 95. But instead we decided to make a big move more than 100 miles north on I-95 and then take I-64 east to 95 north. The benefits of this plan are that it’s cheaper, we’ll have less driving time and the kids will be able to go to the same school as their friends. But there are negative effects like the kids having to drive a bigger distance and then the traffic on 95 is much worse than 95 north of Richmond.
