Waxahachie is a city, located in the state of Texas. It is the seat of Ellis County and it was founded in 1856. Waxahachie has 53,977 inhabitants, according to the 2010 census. The town’s name comes from “wax-a-hagh” or “waxhachia”, as translated from the Caddo language meaning “tallow place”, owing to the abundance of tallow trees in the area.
The city is the home of the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame & Museum, and it is also known for hosting a number of festivals, including the annual RailFest, Main Street Jazz and Blues Festival, Rubber Duck Regatta and an annual Health & Wellness Expo. History of Waxahachie and How it Grew into a Unique Small Town in Texas

The area was settled by European Americans in the mid-to-late-1850s, and the city of Waxahachie was incorporated in 1873. It was an important junction for the Texas and Pacific Railway, which opened through the area in 1872. The population expanded from 1,298 in 1880 to 2,838 in 1900.
The first school opened in 1856, and a Masonic lodge was formed in the 1890s.
Women began serving on the Waxahachie City Council in 2000. Traditionally, women have not been allowed to serve on city councils in Texas, Oklahoma and Arizona and in Kentucky, Colorado and South Dakota.

In the year 1881, Mr. David Ross Pitcher was looking for a place to build a home worthy of his wife and family who lived in Fort Worth. A friend told him about an area where he could find all the timber needed for his house and a small town called Waxahachie. The property was appraised at $20,000, which meant that it was a very cheap purchase for Mr. Pitcher. The house would be completed in the year 1882. Around that time, the town’s name was changed from Waxahachie to its present-day name of Waxahachie.
