Introduction: What is the Border Between Clovis and El Paso?

El Paso is in the state of Texas and borders Juarez on the south, while Clovis is located in New Mexico and borders Deming on the north. The official point of entry is the Santa Fe Street Bridge, which crosses the Rio Grande River.
The Rio Grande was originally named the Rio Bravo del Norte during discovery. Deming, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas are strategically located near rivers that connect to the Gulf of Mexico. It was a narrow passage between the Texas Lowlands and mountainous terrain in the north of New Mexico. The area of Deming is known as “The Gateway to the Americas” because it is ultimately accessible by land or water. The United States had been seeking access to markets through this area for decades before the Mexican War (1846-1848).
Two major events that led to the border creation were the Gadsden Purchase, which was authorized by President James K. Polk in 1854, and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, which ended the Mexican War in 1848. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo established the Rio Grande River as a boundary between Mexico and Texas. In 1859, the U.S. purchased land from Mexico to build railroad lines, which extended from El Paso to New Mexico and into Colorado. The El Paso City government was established in 1873.
