5 Best Hikes in the Sal J. Prezioso Mountain Lakes Park

There are eleven trails in the park, each more beautiful than the other. It’s almost hard to choose which hike to do first because they are all so fantastic. But, in our research of this park, we have come up with five that we think stand out above the rest and offer a wide variety of scenery and adventure. So, here are our top five hikes in the Sal J. Prezioso Mountain Lakes Park:
Xplor Trails
This trail is a great option for those who want to venture into more terrain than a single trail can offer. The hike begins on the Gulfside Trail and heads up through dense cypress forest, giving it a similar feel to the Cypress Swamp Trail. As the trail begins to level off, you’ll pass by the stone ruins of what was once a hunting lodge, then begin to climb again. At this point in your hike, you’ll be on the Ridge Trail.
This is one of our favorites because it provides stunning views of Lake Okeechobee and two nearby lakes: Lake Barco and Lake Freeman.

The trail begins at the Blue Lake Parking Lot, located just over a half mile south of Highway 70. When extreme temperatures require it, the parking lot is open until 10 p.m. daily. The Blue Lake Trail begins just west of the lot and leads north.
A short distance into the hike, it passes by a large boulder field before meeting a fork in either direction that circles around to meet back up with itself at the trail’s beginning. This western fork is officially designated as the Dardanelle Mountain Trail and is one of the most popular trails in the park for downhill mountain biking.
